In Te Ngahere we have been creating tessellations. We first started off by answering easy questions which relate to tessellating. We had to find the meaning behind tesselating, translation, rotation, reflection and symmetry. Tessellation is an arrangement of one shape that are fitted close together without showing any gaps. We decided to create a tessellation using quadrilaterals. The shape that I decided to use looked almost the exact same a boomerang, but I had rotated the shape to line up to the rest of the shapes so I am not showing any gaps. Here is the tessellation that I have created.

Energize DLO
Here at Paihia School we had Whaea Gina come in to Te Ngaere to talk to the class about healthy eating. We were reflecting on what we had already learnt and going over some of the ideas that we could use to balance our diet with other foods to get a healthy diet. We were learning about the four different food groups which are meat and meat alternatives, dairy, vegetables and fruit and grain. I learnt that if you are a vegetarian and you don’t eat meat, eggs give you the same protein and vitamin B12 as meat. After we had gathered all of the information we remembered we created a DLO about what we learnt. Here is my DLO

Athletics
Here at Paihia School we have been practising athletics for the athletics day at the Bledisloe Domain. The activities that we have been practising were shot put, high jump, long jump, discus and relays. I personally enjoy athletics and sports. My favourite sport is Netball. We divided into five groups that we practise with for athletics. Every Wednesday and Friday we go out to the field and train with our groups. We have a roster that has all the activities we are doing and what groups are doing what. We rotate every Wednesday and Friday so all of the groups get to experience all of the activities. I learnt the proper way to position yourself when you are doing shot put. When you are doing shot put you have to stand sideways with your right leg at the back of your left leg so that you have balance. When you are pushing the ball you have to make sure the ball is slightly behind your ear. I am really excited for athletics day.
Tuia 250 Flotilla
On Friday the 8th of November we walked from Paihia School to the Waitangi Marae to see the Tuia 250 flotilla. Our teachers decided that they could took two different groups of students down to Waitangi at different times. There were students that left with one teacher at 8 o’clock and also another teacher taking students down at 9 o'clock. Once we left the school we made our way down to Waitangi where we saw so many people and different boats all lined up in the water. The kids who came down at 8 o’clock watched the different boats arrive in Waitangi which was an amazing experience. Our school stayed and watched the Maori entrance that they had performed for us. I found it really interesting. As they finished we decided to stroll along the beach and try to memorize the names of the waka. The names of the waka that traveled here are Va’a Tipaerui, Waka Hourua, Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti, HMB Endeavour, R. Tucker Thompson and the Spirit of New Zealand.
Kia Orahi
Here at Paihia School we have been training for Kia Orahi. On Wednesday selected students got the opportunity to go to Simpson park to participate in Kia Orahi. We got split into our year groups, year 6 and year 7-8’s. Once we first arrived at Simpson Park we were greeted by all of the different schools and K.C which is a Kia Orahi influencer. K.C is also apart of the Kia Orahi team. We first started the day by doing a karakia and singing a few waita. Our first game of Kia Orahi was very challenging because we had to verse year 7 and 8’s but we did not give up and we tried our hardest. Once we had finished our first game we decided to go and watch the year 7 and 8s and see if we can take notes from them and see what we can change next game. I had so much fun at Kia Orahi. Hopefully we get another chance to go back and play again.
