Maths Problem Solving

This term in Te Maunga we have been solving maths  problems in collaborative groups. Mrs Pou has put us in a group with one expert, and Mrs Pou has taken a group of kids each week to be experts and so they can teach the rest of the kids in their group how to solve the mathematical problems. Maths problem solving is when you get into a group and the teacher will give you problems to solve. Over  the couple week we have been doing problems that relate to Matariki as the Maori New Year is coming. We were learning how to measure our wingspan, height and we also we had a problem that involved 53 stars and if each star has 5 points how many stars altogether we had to work that problem out which was easier than doing it all by yourself and it is easier if you have help from friends. We were also learning how to use metres, centimetres and millimetres. I would have to say that our group collaborated by talking to each other even without  the talk moves because one person in my group said that she didn't really understand the talk moves and how to prove that she knew the answer so we had to explain it to everyone in my group.
