My Poupou Art

Here in Te Ngahere we have been doing art. We had to design our own Poupou representing ourselves. We first had to practise our draft on a A4 piece of paper using pencil, we had to sketch our drawings lightly because if we made a mistake it would be alot easier erasing it instead of erasing dark bold lines. I found it difficult to get some of the lines symmetrical. I personally enjoyed art but the layout of this art was very confusing for me as we had to make sure that everything matched up to the opposite side. The next thing we did was drew patterns on our pou, Since we were colouring our pou in pastel I had to practice my blending on a scrap paper so that I knew how to blend colors before I started on my good copy. I was so nervous when I was doing my good copy because I was scared that I was going to mess up. I really enjoyed doing this art but next time I could add more detail. Have you done art similar to this ?

My Kindess Letter

 Here in Te Ngahere we have been writing letters to send out to the kuia and kaumatua in the rest homes in Northland. Red Cross came up with this idea and I think it was a good one because  throughout this virus they weren't allowed visitors because the Coronavirus is life threatening to them because of their Immune system. What I did well  is that I wrote it like how I would write a letter to my Kuia or Kaumatua. What I could do better is be more descriptive.  This is my letter. Do you like my letter?

Monday 8th June

Kia ora Friend

Kia ora my name is Nevaeh and I am a year 7 student at Paihia School. I live with my mum, brother, sister in-law, sister and my nana. I have 3 siblings and I enjoy drawing in my own time. I have been playing netball for 5 years now which Is my favourite sport. I am very grateful to be living in the Bay of Islands.

Lockdown has  impacted a lot of people's lives because many people have had to stop working. I personally think that during the lockdown it was very scary because I had no idea what was going to happen and it was very hard for me and my family. Covid-19 has made me want to be more active in many ways like going for walks and communicating more with my family. 

I have experienced a lot of things throughout the lockdown such as baking, trying different types of sports, going for runs with my family and doing online school. I found doing online school quite difficult because if I needed help in my learning the teachers and I would have to communicate over facetime and not in person. The part that made me upset during quarantine was that I wasn't allowed to physically see my friends and family that do not live with me. 

I never gave up during the lockdown because I knew that eventually it would be over and I would finally be able to do some of the activities that I did before covid-19. I personally think that at the start some people took the coronavirus as a joke but soon realised that it was not when they actually experienced it themself. What kept me motivated during the lockdown was my family especially my Mum because she kept on reminding me that I was not allowed to go see my friends, I realised after a while that it would be best for me to stay inside not only to protect myself but to protect others. 

Covid-19 has changed the amount of times I wash my hands which is a good thing because I don't want any germs and I don't want to get sick or anyone else to get sick. I hope everything is going well and you are staying safe. The main focus is to not give up and stay safe and don't forget to wash your hands. I wish you all the best.

Chain Reaction Trickshot

Here in Te Ngahere we have been creating new trick shots every week. The trickshot that we were focusing on this week was to create a chain reaction for at least 5 seconds. The group that I had been working with for the past three weeks decided to create a domino effect using books. I personally found creating our own obstacles difficult because I dont have alot of experience with making trick shots. Setting up our trickshot was very difficult because we couldn't physically contact each other. Have you ever done trickshots ? Here is our trickshot.

My Trickshot Reflection

Here in  Te ngahere we have created our own trickshots using cardboard. Our focus was to get the ping pong ball to roll or bounce inside the cup without physically touching the ping pong ball, my group decided to make a ping pong bat out of cardboard and to use folded piece of cardboard so the ping pong ball would roll down the piece of cardboard into the cup. Have you done anything similar to this before? Here is our reflection.

My Math Eyes

We learnt to identify maths in the world around us. We had to identify the things that stood out about a group of gingerbread men on a slide presentation.  I realised that all of the gingerbread men had two legs and two arms. Using our maths eyes we had to understand the questions that we were given so we could answer them related to the topic.

What I did well was I used my math eyes and spotted different things about the gingerbread men. What I could do better is identify more detail about the gingerbread men. I personally found describing the gingerbread men to create a story difficult.

Day 1 of the SLJ

On the 15th of april the students of Te ngahere had to choose a country to describe and research about for the summer learning journey. We had to choose a country from the options that we were given. The country that I had chosen was Mexico because I wanted to understand and learn more about the country and what has made a difference. I then had to write three interesting facts about the topic like american politics creating the border and other facts about Mexico.  I personally found finding out facts about Mexico was very interesting because I had learnt new things like how Mexico is the 14th largest country by land area. The country I have chosen to travel to is Mexico because I want to learn more about the country itself and what has changed throughout the years. American politics has had a massive impact on Mexico in general. America has created border restrictions causing the children in Mexico to separate from their parents. The most populated city in north america is Mexico city with the population of 22 million. In 1968 the Summer Olympics Game was hosted by Mexico City.

My Digital Dig

Here in  Te Ngahere we have been learning the correct ways to navigate through our computers using keyboard shortcuts. We were learning how to take screenshots, copy and paste and the meaning behind the shortcuts and what they do. I learnt a lot of new shortcuts and ways to make my learning easier. Here is a DLO of my top tip. The digital dig had taught me many shortcuts that can help me throughout my learning like, screen shots, copy and paste, zoom in, zoom out and many others. The thing that I found difficult was finding all of the shortcuts because some were very confusing to understand. What I could do better next time is understand more difficult shortcuts that can help improve my learning.
