Day 1 of the SLJ

On the 15th of april the students of Te ngahere had to choose a country to describe and research about for the summer learning journey. We had to choose a country from the options that we were given. The country that I had chosen was Mexico because I wanted to understand and learn more about the country and what has made a difference. I then had to write three interesting facts about the topic like american politics creating the border and other facts about Mexico.  I personally found finding out facts about Mexico was very interesting because I had learnt new things like how Mexico is the 14th largest country by land area. The country I have chosen to travel to is Mexico because I want to learn more about the country itself and what has changed throughout the years. American politics has had a massive impact on Mexico in general. America has created border restrictions causing the children in Mexico to separate from their parents. The most populated city in north america is Mexico city with the population of 22 million. In 1968 the Summer Olympics Game was hosted by Mexico City.

My Digital Dig

Here in  Te Ngahere we have been learning the correct ways to navigate through our computers using keyboard shortcuts. We were learning how to take screenshots, copy and paste and the meaning behind the shortcuts and what they do. I learnt a lot of new shortcuts and ways to make my learning easier. Here is a DLO of my top tip. The digital dig had taught me many shortcuts that can help me throughout my learning like, screen shots, copy and paste, zoom in, zoom out and many others. The thing that I found difficult was finding all of the shortcuts because some were very confusing to understand. What I could do better next time is understand more difficult shortcuts that can help improve my learning. 

               

Maths Whizz

Here in Te ngahere we got given the opportunity to participate in the maths whizz learning app. Usually maths whizz cost money but our class is doing a free trial to see if the app is appropriate for our learning. I personally enjoyed playing maths whizz as it helps my learning in many ways. Maths whizz improves my learning because it gives me difficult questions, and since I don’t understand them yet I could learn them in my own time. First we started off by logging into our maths whizz accounts, then we did a determination test that determined what level you are on and made sure that the questions you are given suits you. I personally think that maths whizz is in an awesome learning app.

Turbo Touch

Here in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to play turo touch. In week 4 our class created groups that were our teams. We had already done the tournament in week 4 so this week we were playing in the finals. My group was called the team tokers. We first played against the champions and we won 10-1. Our next game we played Chig and we won 6-1. Our third game we played against Crazy Horses and we won 4-0. Our very last game we played a difficult team called Seagulls and we tied 2-2. Our total points were 11 and our total tries were 22. I personally enjoyed turbo touch because most people cooperated with their group which was cool to see. Hopefully we get more chances like this in 2020. 

Design our class

Here in Te Ngahere we have been gathering ideas to design our class room. The students from Te ngahere walked to the bush track down school road. The reason why we went to the ngahere was to get ideas for our classroom. We all decided what we wanted to create based on the ngahere. My group was Jorjah, Lilly and I. we are creating a 3d tree made out of polystyrene balls, scrunched up paper, paint and cardboard. Here is a rough design of what we are making. 

Turbo touch

Here in Te Ngahere  we have learnt how to play turbo touch. Turbo touch is a sport that includes other sports skills like netball, rugby and touch. We first had to get into groups of 4 or 5. Whaea Shanna decided that we did a few warmups before we started the game, the warmups that we did were passes, jogging and passing the rugby ball and low passes. I personally enjoyed practicing because the teams we were in could possibly help each other. We had 2 games running at the same time because we have many people in our class. My team was versing another group of girls. Once the game had started I didn't feel as nervous as  I was before. Once we found out that our team had got the try we were all very proud of the people that participated. I personally enjoyed playing turbo touch because the game was definitely a challenge to me.

Four Hoe Creation

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the four hoe and the meaning behind them. We got the choice to choose one of the hoe to do a creation to show our evidence and what we know about Whanaungatanga - helping each other, Manaakitanga - respect, Kaha - being strong, Tu maia - resilience. We made groups of  2 or 3 and created something to show what we learnt. The group that I was working with decided to focus on Whanaungatanga. My group created a drawing with an acrostic poem. We had also made a video to explain what we learnt about. I personally enjoyed stating facts about the topic because the information I gather could help other students in their learning. I found learning about whanaungatanga little difficult because I always get mixed up with manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.
