Flower and Pet Show

We had a fantastic Pet Show Day last Friday. Throughout the week we had planned creative articles to create such as sand saucers, vaseline saucers, aqua jars, wild flower and grasses decorations and hunting out some unusual containers to arrange flowers in. Beforehand some of us had produced some some needlework by making oven cloths. On Thursday we made gingerbread men and we decorated them with a variety of edible goodies. Some of us also made some amazing tasty truffles.

Gala Video

W.A.L.T. create a video using trailer on our i-pad. We had to ensure that we spelt all our words correctly the first time as it is tricky and time wasting to correct them. We had some of our photos deleted about our Gala day which was really disappointing but any way our creative learning was more about the process rather than the final product. The most important thing was that our class learnt so much about creating products to sell for profit at our Gala. We made $670 which was FANTASTIC for our camp to Cooper's Beach later in the month.

What do you think?

W.A.L.T

Question: What are we trying to find out? How to get out of quicksand.
Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen? Give a reason) I think the guy who said that he will try to swim slowly will make it to the other side.
Procedure: (We are going to test it by.  List steps)
  1. Make some quicksand
  2. Drop a block head into quicksand
  3. Get a figurine we used block heads.
  4. If the block head floats then the experiment had succeeded. Results: (Was your hypothesis right or wrong?)We were wrong because we thought that the figure was going to float but apparently it sank right to the bottom    Conclusion: (We found out)

  5. We found out that the square head is lighter than the body.
  6. When we put the blockhead in the quicksand the body sank and the head floated. When we used a different figure with a round head the body sank like the blockhead

Cross Country Goals

I.A.L.T. practice frequently, at least five times a week, 30 laps around the school field. Running helps me focus. Last year I came fourth, this year I want to at least come in the top three. But my Mum said, "It doesn't matter if you come last, it's all about having fun"

Choco and M and M Icecream

This week for reading our group (Kaitlin, Nevaeh and Zara) read a story about Joy Cowley who lives in an isolated area Seventy kilometres away from ice cream. Ice cream is one of her favourite treats so she has to make her own. We followed her recipe but chose to change the kiwi fruit for Chocolate and banana M and M's. Next time we will not add as many chips and M and M's and we'll make a triple batch so the whole class can have a taste.

Critter Alliteration

W.A.L.T. write an alliteration describing a relationship between two creatures. We used a shared Google Doc to write our alliteration. In a shared Google Slide we had to add a background then inserted png images of the critters.

Fractions Chart

W.A.L.T. to make a fractions wall. First we had to cut twelve pieces of paper the same length.  First we glued one whole strip, then we folded another strip in 1/2 before cutting it in half and gluing it on our wall. We repeated this process in 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, 1/8, 1/9, 1/10, 1/12ths. We saw patterns when we cut 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/12. We saw another pattern when we cut 1/3, 1/6 and  1/9.  We saw another pattern with 1/5 and 1/10. I think that the most difficult step was making sure that all of the strips were the same length.

Learning

What have I been learning?

  • I’ve written what I have been learning about e.g. shared my WALT
  • I have put in an image, drawing or a screenshot of my learning
How do I know I have learnt?

  • My post includes information and ideas that show what I learned.
  • I created a DLO that shares my ideas about the learning: eg, a video, diagram, infographic etc

Reflected on my learning:

  • My post has my new ideas and what I enjoyed or found really difficult
  • I’ve shared what I think my next steps are, what I’d like to know more about, and what I might do differently next time

Impact

  • I have explained the learning I did
  • Most of my ideas can be seen
  • I included a photo, image or screenshot
  • My title is unique or catchy
  • My DLO is my own creation, makes sense and adds more information
  • My post may include embedded html content e.g. collage, video, Google Slide, animation etc

  • My post shows WHO I AM as a learner and is unique to me.
  • My information and ideas help my audience to understand the learning, [and there’s a link to this activity to my class learning site]
  • For my DLO, I (or my group) made all of the learning being shown from scratch

Punctuation

  • Some of my spelling and punctuation is not right
  • My post might be hard for the reader to understand
  • I have checked my punctuation and spelling
  • I have asked a buddy to read my post, made corrections and I cannot see any mistakes

  • I’m confident all my spelling and punctuation is correct and it makes sense for my readers, they will be able to read it easily

Layout

  • My font sizes and colour may be different and need making the same
  • My images or embedded content might not fit properly
  • I may not have used labels or a title on my learning blog post.
  • I previewed layout to see how my post would look and changed it where I needed to
  • Font size and colour match
  • I’ve used a title & labels
  • If I’ve used other people’s work or thinking I have shown the source or attributed it to them

  • Media/html content is checked e.g. size, position, and appears when post loads
  • My labels and title are specific to the learning & help people searching my blog
  • I am beginning to use scheduling for publishing so my posts don’t all come at once

All the Students in Te Moana have recently begun their own blogs. They are all at the beginner blog stage now but we are all setting our goals to become Smart Bloggers by the end of the year. Please check our blogs all the time to check how we are learning to improve.

Our Hoe

At the beginning of the year we wrote our hoe for Te Moana class as well as how we collaborate and care for others throughout the school as well as throughout life. We have just revisited it, and discussed the questions with greater meaning.
